June 10- June 17: Week One Recap

Week One Recap

Hello everyone, thank you so much for all of your prayers and support over the weeks. Let's recap all that the Lord has done over week one. We began our week with orientation and on-site cultural training. That Sunday we had the opportunity to visit a Japanese Hawaiian Church in downtown Tokyo. The next day we visited the Senso-ji Buddhist temple and Shinto shrine. There, we were able to pray that God would break the spiritual strongholds over that place. In the afternoon, while it was still cloudy, we had the amazing experience of looking down from the Tokyo Skytree and praying over the entire city. Even though we couldn't see much of anything, we got to look through God's eyes and see an entire city filled with lost people who didn't know Jesus.

On Tuesday, we hopped on the Yamanote train line to join a local ministry, "Pray Yamanote." (https://prayyamanote.com/) Here we were able to take the train line around the border of the entire city. Pray Yamanote is based on the story of Jericho. Every Tuesday these missionaries would ride the entire 2-hour loop and pray that the spiritual strongholds surrounding the city would collapse. Below is a photo of my team and some others after PrayYamanote.

After that, we were able to meet the leaders of the Tokyo inner city team here with ReachGlobal at their monthly meeting. Here we learned the history and mission of the Tokyo City team. While their main focus is church planting so much more is done through this team. On Wednesday we joined "PrayGakushuine." Gakushuine is a very prestigious university where diplomats and royalty send their children to. Similarly, on Thursday, we participated in "PrayWaseda," which is another prestigious Ivy League like school here in Tokyo. Both missions revolve around praying around the campus every week. Since, Gakushuine is a closed campus, and Waseda is not, there are many more outreach events held with Waseda students. One such is the "Story House" club. This unofficial club is hosted by a collaboration of IMB (International Missions Board) missionaries as well as ReachGlobal missionaries. The Story House club runs Communitas, which is a weekly get-together/bible study, and English Corner which alternates every Friday with Communitas. The first picture is during PrayWaseda within the Campus itself. The second photo is of Communitas.

Saturday our week ended with a house church experience. All 6 of my Apex team members broke up into 3 groups where each group got to experience a different house church. The image below is of a house church I did not go to but a couple team members did. My church met over Zoom, while the other two met in person.

Prayer Requests

Luke 10:2 Pray that there would be more missionaries sent out into the world to spread the gospel
Pray that God would soften the hearts of the Japanese people to be open to his good news
Pray that the spiritual strongholds holding this city would be broken
Pray for the long-term missionaries here that God would give them strength
Pray that my team would live together in harmony as we serve the Lord together
