Week Four Recap
Time is flying by fast! Week 4 is already complete! Another busy week to recap. Let's start with Sunday. This Sunday I traveled solo about an hour out of the city to Kiyose Station where I met with a missionary family that my family knows. I attended church with the Reasoners who are missionaries with Send International. Together we spent the day catching up as I listened to their stories and testimonies. Below is a photo from left to right of pastor Iwai Motoo, myself, and then Mrs. & Mr. Reasoner.
Mondays are usually fun days with our hosts Kim and Adam. This Monday, however, we spent the morning catching up on financial reports and spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing and hanging out together as a team. Later that evening, however, John, Kali, and I went to the Lee's home to babysit the three girls for a few hours.
On Tuesday we had prayYamanote as usual. This week, however, we had the SecondLevel ministry team join us. SecondLevel is an evangelism organization born by Japanese Christians aimed at spreading the gospel to the hearts of Japanese non-believers. (https://secondlevel.org/) After prayYamanote both the ReachGlobal missionaries and the Apex team headed over to Shige's house for a Level One training session with the SecondLevel team. Below is a photo of everyone after prayYamanote.
Wednesday was the busiest day yet! We started the day with a devotional at John Lee's house. After the devotional, our non-official Japanese lesson with Mimi San and Shizu San began. During this lesson, we made inari sushi (stuffed tofu pockets). After that, all of us including the whole Lee family packed up our food into bento boxes and headed out for a local park to have a picnic. While we don't learn much Japanese during our lessons with Mimi and Shizu San, our purpose is to create a bridge between the Lee family and their unbelieving neighbors (Mimi and Shizu San). Our hope is that this new bridge will give way for the gospel message to get through the Lees and into Mimi and Shizu San's hearts. Mimi San and Shizu San are the far right two in the second picture below.
For the rest of the afternoon on Wednesday, we went to PrayGakushuine with ReachGlobal missionary Sarah at Gakushuine campus.
On Thursday morning, Kali and I got up early to meet our new friend Umi at UniCafe. A college student a Keio University, Umi had been introduced to us at the Fourth of July party last Saturday. Since becoming friends with Umi, I have been continuously inviting her to StoryHouse events and spending lots of time chatting with her.
On Thursday afternoon, we did 5-minute English at Gakushuine University instead of Waseda this time. Below is a photo of me holding the posterboard offering free English chats.
On Friday we were given a personal day to spend however we liked. I chose to go over to the Lee's house to babysit the girls so that the parents could both go to the event that morning.
Saturday was spent doing our weekly debrief as usual. Later in the evening, we went to a small church. Rather, family church with the Lee's.
