June 18- June 24: Week Two Recap
Week Two Recap
Week two is done! Let's recap all that happened. We began our week on Sunday with a day of rest. On Monday, a few of us including myself was able to babysit for a missionary family here in Tokyo. We were able to bless the Lee family by taking care of their three little girls. Tuesday was a whirlwind of action. Shige Nakazawa, one of the Tokyo City team leaders took the Apex team on a prayer walk of the entire city. While the city was huge we were able to stop at four main stations, Shinagawa, Shibuya, Akihabara, and Nishi-Nippori. While stopping and getting out at each of these stations, Shige opened our eyes to the desperate need for Christ in this city and nation. Below is a photo of my team with Shige at a Shinto shrine in Nishi-Nippori.
The next day, Wednesday, we met with the Lee's neighbors. These two women became some of our Japanese teachers. Our first lesson was on food and cooking. Together we made a delicious meal of cold soba noodles and edamame.
On Thursday we participated in prayWaseda. This is another prayer ministry surrounding the Waseda University campus. That evening we met with Shige and one of the college students, Yutaro, who he has been discipleing. Later in the week, several members of the team were able to connect with Yutaro separately.
Friday was a day full of ministry. After lunch, we joined a local street evangelist named Kano Sensei. He has been playing music and handing out Bibles at busy street corners for over a decade. Over the few years, many volunteers have joined him in handing out Bibles and tracks to passers-by while Kano Sensei plays the keyboard and shares the gospel through music. Kano Sensei provides a variety of materials to hand out, The Japanese New Testament, a children's gospel comic, steps to salvation track, and much more! That evening two of us, Jenna and I, joined our leader Kim at English Corner. English Corner is a weekly event that is held by the "Story House" club at Waseda. This unofficial club is hosted by a collaboration of IMB (International Missions Board) missionaries as well as ReachGlobal missionaries. The Story House club runs Communitas, which is a weekly get-together/bible study, and English Corner which alternates every Friday with Communitas. Story House also runs 5-minute English which will show up later in the weeks to come. Here we were able to meet with current Waseda University students and join in a fun short English lesson. The first photo is of the team along with Kano Sensei at Takadanobaba station. The second photo was taken at English Corner.
On Saturday the Apex team had the amazing opportunity to join the ReachGlobal Tokyo team's small church network baptism. At Odaiba Beach, all 3 of the ReachGlobal Tokyo team's small churches met to celebrate the baptism of two women. This was an amazing place to meet all of the churches and their members as well as see all the amazing work that God has done through the ReachGlobal Tokyo team.
